Welcome to the page! Taking A Swing At Buddha is a mindfulness blog/forum with the goal of taking mindfulness philosophies from all cultures and walks of life and asking questions about how to apply these practices in our lives. These teachings are great when you’re on a retreat, sitting on a meditation cushion or want a throw pillow to let everyone know how zen you are. But when someone cuts you off in traffic, your boss gave the promotion to his nephew, or your kids are sick and coughing in your mouth, being truly aware and mindful can be a hard sell. But that’s what I hope this page will be. A place to ask the hard questions and share our experiences about what we’ve learned on the path so we can take our practice off the mat and onto the streets.
I will regularly be posting awareness based quotes and ideas and asking questions about what these teachings mean for our practice, our wellbeing, and how they can help us move through the world. Admitting you don’t have the answer can be tough, but like Shunryu Suzuki says, “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s there are few.”
